Skybox

While other companies have begun inserting autographs into their NBA products, Hoops/Skybox started the trend with Autographics in 1996-97. Grant Hill is a spokesman for Skybox and has appeared each year. Grant's are also the most expensive, with the highest being the 1998-99 Century Mark valued at $500.00. Skybox began inserting Century Marks in 1997-98. These are normally signed in blue, while the standard versions are in black, and limited to 100 in 1997-98 and 50 in 1998-99. Skybox also produced an Emerald Autograph card available by redemption in 1996-97.

Fleer

Fleer has announced plans to include "Fresh Ink" inserts in their Tradition and Ultra NBA products this year. Surely some of this years crop of Duke players will be included.

Upper Deck

The first Duke player to have his autograph included in an Upper Deck set was Roshown McLeod. His autograph card appeared in the 1998-99 Upper Deck Ionix and is shown on the left. In the 1999 SP Top Prospects release, Trajan Langdon appears on a Vital Signs autograph, seen on the right. Although not a basketball card, the Upper Deck 99 MLS Soccer Sign of the Times auto of Jay Heaps is shown below.

Non-Certified

Although collecting certified autographs from name brand card companies is the smartest and safest investment, it is also fun to collect autographs from other Duke players who may not appear on a certified autograph. If you are fortunate enough to live near Durham, many past and current players routinely return for Duke events and are very accessible. Here are a few I have managed to obtain over the last few years.
